Hi i am using the following formula :

x1 =1.8072 formula is =atan(x1-x2)*180/pi() = -1.08276
x2 = 1.8261
x3= 1.8504
x4= 1.8470

but now if i have result say -0.30 and need to find at what point x1 value will be.

Manually i know it will be 1.8208. But how can i change the formula to arrive at this number.

Thanks for the help :o

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
This will give you the value of x1:
Code:
=TAN(-0.3*PI()/180)+x2

just change -0.3 by the address of the cell where is the result..

Isn't it just a matter of simplifying that formula for x1 ?

Code:
y = ATAN(x1 - x2) * 180 / PI()

y * PI() / 180 = ATAN(x1 - x2)

TAN(y * PI() / 180) = x1 - x2

x1 = TAN(y * PI() / 180) + x2

replace y by -0.30 and you'll get your answer.
