I'm trying to figure out how to use conditional formatting to check if the date column is in sequntial order and highlight one square if it is not.

here is an example of what it would look like
<colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody>
6/16/1998

6/17/1998

6/18/1998
6/17/1998

6/21/1998

Excel Facts

What is the last column in Excel?
Excel columns run from A to Z, AA to AZ, AAA to XFD. The last column is XFD.
Assuming your first date is in A1 and the rest below them:

Select all dates in the range from A2 down
In conditional formatting, select the option to create conditional formatting based on a rule
Enter this formula =A2<A1 and choose a conditional format

When you OK that rule you will see that all dates which are not in sequence compared to the previous one will be formatted
