:(Is there a way to highlight a row from A1:I1 but only when there is an "X" in the cell J1. After this is there then a way where I can have all the cells from A1:I1 to as far down the spread sheet as possible eg. A1000:I1000 where that if later in the row in the column J, if an "X" is present the other columns are highlighted eg. A994:I994 is highlighted as J994 has an "X" in it.
Help would be appreciated so so much thanks

Hi Harry,

Hope this work!

Select the cell from A1:I1 apply conditional formatting > New Rule > Use a formula to determine which cells to format

Copy & Paste the below formula into the Edit the rule

=IF(J1="X",TRUE,FALSE)

Choose the colour to highlight.

Use format painter, from first row to the last.

Thanks

Murali, you were almost there :)

1st, highlight the entire range you want to apply the CF to A1:I1000 (if you highlight the entire range, you dont need to format-paint. Another option would be to adjust the range in the "applies to" box inside the CF window)
then the formula to use is...
=$J1="X"

CF only works on TRUE and FALSE, so there is no need to include them in the formula
Also, you need to absolute the column in the formula...$J1

Also note that if you use a LOT of conditional formatting, it can start to slow your file down
