Username in Cell without VBA

I have a file all.xls in common drive. Cell A1 of Sheet1 will contain Username/UserID. What I need to fillup A1 with the system username whenever a user opens all.xls. I can't use any vba/macros in all.xls.How can I put the username/Id this way?

I'm pretty sure all techniques for getting an Excel Application registered username or windows environment user name will require VBA.

I agree with jbeaucaire, If you want to log when someone opens a file you will need VBA support.

A possible alternative would be to track changes, Tool=>Track Changes. This will not log who opens a workbook, but will inform you of changes they make to it. See this article.
