Is there a way to insert blank rows in a speardsheet like the subtotal function does? I work in Excel 97.

Thanks

WELCOME TO THE BOARD!

Could you please provide a little more detail? What do you mean "like the subtotal function"? Do you mean to insert a blank row with each change in a field? Do you want to automate the process, i.e. use VBA? You could insert blank rows manually, via (Insert | Rows), but I'm guessing there's more to it than that.

The Subtotal function doesn't insert blank rows. Perhaps, you mean the Subtotal command. Why not apply subtotals, collapse the outline to only display the subtotals, select the subtotals, choose the Edit | Go To... [ Special... ] "Visible cells only" menu command, clear the selected cells, and then choose the Data | Group and Outline | Clear Outline menu command.

There are times when I simply want to put blank rows between each row of 100's of rows of information for readability. There are other times when I want to insert a blank row between every 2 rows or maybe every 3 rows where there may be 2 or 3 similiar records, without having to use the subtotal function with extra columns, copy and paste to another worksheet, and then undo the subtotal function.
